Last Day, Hooray!

Well, don't look too hard at these pictures from the last day, because apparently by this point in Dressember I am so lazy that I am having a hard time making decisions about what to wear. I am definitely wearing the same dress as yesterday. Just picked it up right off the chair where I left it last night and put it right back on. I didn't even find a new sweater, that's how lazy I am. But I do have different (fleece-lined) tights on, so that's something, right? It's just so cold here, and this dress is like wearing sweatpants, only in the form of a dress, and I just couldn't help myself! And I can't even be sure that I won't put it on again tomorrow, but at least I won't have to post a picture of it!

Thanks for coming along on my Dressember adventure. I had fun, raised a little money for a great organization, and even managed to stay warm most of the time!

Stay tuned for more projects coming up soon. I just started reading Seven: an experimental mutiny against excess by Jen Hatmaker, and the entire book seems like one big New Year's resolution to me right now! Be warned, it might get a little crazy around here...

Happy Dressember and Happy New Year!

2 Days Left

Dressember is almost over and I'm pretty excited - it's getting really cold around here! But before it ends, I'm using today to show off a Christmas present made by my Grandma. She knitted boot cuffs for all of the her granddaughters, and they turned out super cute! And even though they're just cuffs, they still added some extra warmth on a day where the high was about 10 degrees!

So far the Dressember campaign has raised over $100,000. There are a few more days left to be part of it. Stay tuned for 1 more day of dresses...

Week 4

Somehow I only have 4 pictures from this week. Blame it on Christmas craziness. Or maybe it's the fact that I haven't had to go to work for the past week and might be spending a majority of my time dressed in pajamas. Either way, here are my few pictures from the week.

Even though there are only 3 more days left in Dressember, it's not too late to donate to IJM. Here's the link to my fundraising page if you're interested. Enjoy the last few days of Dressember!

Week 3

Pictures from the week...

Just a note: It was a tough week to wear dresses! At school, the kids had a special hour-long gym time and any teachers who played games with them got to wear jeans. Hmm, not me!

On Friday after the kids went home, we had a teacher's meeting where we usually just sit and talk about stuff. But since this was the last day before break, we all played a game in gym where we had to build giant snowmen. And for part of the game, we had to ride a scooter - hard to do in a DRESS!

Also, my fleece lined leggings have a GIANT hole in them!

But I'm not really complaining, because unlike women in many countries around the world, I have the freedom to choose what I can wear, where I can go, and what my life is about.

Like always, consider making a donation to help free women from slavery and trafficking around the world. If you can help, click here. Thanks!

Week 2

A quick look at Dressember, Week 2. It's been getting cold around here, so I've been wearing my fleece-lined leggings a lot!

And, just a reminder, if you want to help out my fundraising for International Justice Mission, check out my page here!

Happy Dressember!

Christmas Present Idea

If you are like me this holiday season, you have a few family members who just won't make a Christmas list. Either they don't want anything, they want things that are way above your budget, or they just can't make up their mind!

As part of my Dressember adventure this month, I came across a great gift idea for anyone who doesn't have a Christmas list or for someone who might be asking for more meaningful, less material gifts this year.

If you are looking for a meaningful gift for one of your hard to please family members, check out IJM's holiday gift catalog. You can give a gift in someone's honor to help change lives around the world.

When you give a gift from their catalog, you choose the amount and the gift type. Then you will be either mailed or emailed a card to personalize for your recipient. (Tomorrow is the last day to order if you want to have a card to give. If you want to do the e-mail card, you have more time.)
Some of the gifts you can give towards are: Basic necessities and tools for rescued slaves, Scholarships for education, and Vocational training. You can also give a gift toward IJM's work in a specific country or region.

I have a few people in mind for one of these gifts this year...time to go shopping!

Week 1

So far Dressember is off to a good start! I have managed to wear a dress each day and I haven't missed my jeans too much! Here's a quick peek at all of my dresses from the week.

I'm also really excited because I have $25 donated towards my fundraising for International Justice Mission! Somehow the fundraising page doesn't let me know who donated, so if it was you, let me know! My goal is $150, so if you would like to help out, please visit my fundraising page here.

All of the money raised goes toward IJM and their mission of helping people around the world. I took this from their website to explain it better than I could: "International Justice Mission is a human rights agency that brings rescue to victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. IJM lawyers, investigators and aftercare professionals work with local officials to secure immediate victim rescue and aftercare, to prosecute perpetrators and to ensure that public justice systems - police, courts and laws - effectively protect the poor."

If you want to learn more about IJM and the work that they do around the world, check out their website.

Happy Dressember!

Here we go...

After 3 days of this project, I have learned that I am not a very good self-photographer. Or maybe it's my phone that's not so great?

Check out these terrible pictures (at least it's proof that I'm wearing my dresses)

In other news, tomorrow is jeans day at my school for any staff member that donates $3 to a local food bank, so all of the other teachers will be wearing jeans. I will be wearing a dress, of course, so I'll be a little jealous! I think I'm going to donate my $3 to International Justice Mission. If you'd like to donate your $3, check out my fundraising page. Happy Dressember!

Hello Dressember

Happy Dressember, Everyone!

To start off right, here are the rules from the website.

Wear a dress every day for the entire month of December (no surprises there, we hope)
- You can repeat dresses
- When you're working out, cleaning, sleeping, or if you have a job that requires you to wear pants, you can wear pants
- You can wear skirts, but only over dresses (it's not called skirtember, folks)
- You can wear pants, but only under dresses

I think my favorite is the extra part of rule 3 - It's not called skirtember, folks! Which is too bad, because I have a lot of skirts! Maybe I'll get creative, we'll see. (And for some reason, this won't unbold - sorry about that!)

I hope you'll join me on my Dressember journey. Stay tuned for information about International Justice Mission and what you can do to help with their mission of working against human trafficking and slavery. And of course, stay tuned for lots of dresses!

Well, it's been a while...

...But I'm back with a new challenge!

Starting December 1st, I will be participating in Dressember!

What is Dressember? Well, check out this description from the website:

Dressember is a month of dresses! Thousands of dresses are adorned around the globe during the month of December each year. Through Dressember, vital funds are raised for International Justice Mission, a human rights organization that works to combat human trafficking and end sexual slavery.

Basically, it means that I will be wearing a dress everyday (and posting a picture here) with the hope of raising money for International Justice Mission!

If you want more information, or want to join me in this challenge, visit the Dressember website.

See you in Dressember!
