My Favorite Kind of Weekend

I don't know about you, but I love when my weekend is completely empty of plans.  It gives me a chance to recuperate from the week & get ready for the next one.  That and catch up on sleep, watch a movie with my husband, finally make it to the grocery store, etc.  This past weekend has been just like that, and besides the fact that I've had a whole lot of school work to catch up on, it's been fabulous.  Having nothing to do is also good for my clothing challenge - after all, not many people saw me.  I tried not to take that into account too much as I put together my outfits.  Here's how it looked:

I enjoyed my weekend of nothingness.  How was your weekend?

The Week In Pictures

Yikes, I just saw Aimee's pictures from the week, and I have to confess that 1. My pictures are nowhere near as fun & creative as her's are, and 2. My outfits are nowhere near as fun & creative as her's are! I will have to step up my game for next week. But regardless of how uncreative, here are my pictures from the week...

Day 1 - Sunday

Days 2 & 4 - Monday & Wednesday
(yes, I wore the exact same thing 2 days this week)

Day 3 - Tuesday
(I forgot to take my picture while I was still wearing this outfit!)

Day 5 - Thursday

Day 6 - Friday
A note about this one: Instead of noticing that I had worn the same sweater 2 days in a row, the 1st graders were mildly obsessed with the polka-dot scarf. I got many compliments on it from the 6 year olds (which is, of course, always my fashion goal)!

Day 7 - Saturday
(And my attempt at a more interesting picture)

My goal for the week is to make my outfits look as different from each other as possible!

Playing Picture Catch Up

It has been exactly one week today (well, technically yesterday) - 7 days with only 6 items.  I've been trying to make each outfit look different, but I've been wondering, "Has anybody noticed I've been wearing the same clothes all week?"  I mean, there are only a handful of people who see me everyday plus all my junior high students, but I'm counting on the fact that they probably don't pay that close attention to the outfits of their teachers.  But you never know.  Anyway, those who I do see everyday, with the exception of my husband, don't know about my "Six item" commitment.  Instead of telling them, I'm doing my best to hide it.  Here's how it looked this week:

Day 1 - Saturday

 Day 2 - Sunday

Day 3 - Monday

Day 4 - Tuesday

Day 5 - Wednesday

Day 6 - Thursday

Day 7 - Friday

So, what do you think? Did anybody notice?

Last Minute Switches

After 4 days of wearing mostly black and gray, I woke up this morning and realized I needed some color in this 6(ish) item wardrobe. I hadn't worn the black dress yet, so I went searching in my closet for a colorful, but still somewhat neutral dress that I wouldn't hate after wearing for a month. Here's what I found...
This blue dress will match the rest of my chosen items, plus I think it will give me more options since a sweater worn over the black skirt or black dress would look pretty much the same. I wore it to work today and then spilled yogurt on it at lunch...hopefully not a bad sign!

One more decision - I'm mulling over switching out the white tank top (which I also haven't worn yet) for a pair of black yoga-type pants. It's winter (and freezing) and I really like to be comfy and wear these pants on the weekend, or going to see a movie. I'll still have 8 items. What do you think?

White Tank OR Black Pants?

I'll post pictues of this week's outfits soon, so stay tuned...

The Chosen Few

I have been thinking about my six items for a while - ever since I discovered the idea.  A few days ago, I decided it was time; I actually had to choose the clothing articles & jump into a month of wearing only those items.  So here they are, my chosen few:

Item #1: Jeans

Item #2: Gray Cardigan

Item #3: Teal Cardigan (It's exactly the same as the gray one, which is probably a mistake considering I'll have a lot of "the same thing" going on this month.  But oh well!  I like it, and it adds a little color to a very gray wardrobe.  Anyway, moving on....)

Item #4: Black Skirt (with pocket, of course!)

Item #5: Black Dress (unfortunately without pockets)

Item #6: Gray sweater (except it's not in the picture because, well, I don't actually own it yet.  Currently my mom has it.  It was supposed to be a Christmas present to me - one of those ones that I actually picked out myself - but there was a little confusion and the sweater was not under the tree for me this year.  So it has become what our family affectionately termed "Extra Christmas" (presents that our mom realizes she bought, forgot to give us for Christmas, and gifts them to us just after the holiday season). All that to say the sweater is not yet in my possession, but hopefully it will be soon.  For now, I'm doing the "5 item" challenge.)

Extra Item: Black tanktops (like Allison said, they don't really count.)

Those are the chosen few.  Wish me luck & happy accessorizing!

Decisions, Decisions

Although we have been thinking and talking about this clothing adventure for a while (we thought about doing it over the summer or at the beginning of the school year), I wasn’t actually sure we would ever really do it. So imagine my surprise when I got back from Florida and Aimee announced “We are doing it, I started today. Pick your clothes.” Since I was already a day behind, I went home right away and started trying to pick out my items. It was really hard to pick just 6, so I ended up with 8 (but I might get rid of one, we'll see how it goes).

Here’s what I came up with…

2 cardigan sweaters, one black and one gray. A white tank top (with a big white flower on it...this is the one I might get rid of). A gray tank top, and an off-white long sleeve shirt with sleeves that can be buttoned up to 3/4 length.

A black dress, pair of jeans, and a black skirt.

Hopefully I won't get too sick of these clothes before the month is over!

*One update to the rules...for the tank tops (for example my gray one), we decided that we can wear different ones as long as they are the same color. This is because these are only for layering and won't be worn alone (since it's freezing outside).

What Have I Gotten Myself Into Now?

It's a new year...and a new blog. My sister Aimee and I are starting on a clothing adventure for the month of January. This one is inspired by a few different ideas. First, the Six Items or Less Experiment, which challenges participants to choose six items of clothing from their closet and wear only those items for one month. Second, the Uniform Project. For this project, one person chooses a black dress to wear every day for a month and raises money for a charity. The third inspiration is just because we (maybe especially me) have a lot of clothes and spend lots of time and money making sure we look good every day. We want to explore the idea that we might not need as many clothes as we think we do! Who knows what else we'll find out along the way...

Here are the rules (adapted from Six Items or Less)...
1. Choose six(ish) items of clothing that you already own. Wear only these clothes for 1 month.
2. Some exceptions: workout clothing, pajamas, special occasions, accessories (including shoes!), and anything you might wear under your clothing (including the many tank tops we wear) DON'T count as one of the six items.
3. Mix and match your clothing and accessories for the month.

We will both be posting more about our clothing choices and outfits as we go, but for now, if you see us wearing the same shirt 2 days in a row, don't judge; just compliment us on our great accessory choices!
